WeQuel is currently supporting one of our key clients, AstraZeneca, in the search for a Formulation Scientist (Consultant) to join their team within Global Product Development (GPD), part of Pharmaceutical Technology & Development (PT&D) in Gothenburg.

This is a laboratory-based consultant assignment where you will work hands-on with formulation development and continuous manufacturing, linking material properties to process performance in a regulated pharmaceutical environment.

About the assignment

In this role, you will be part of cross-functional pharmaceutical development teams, contributing to experimental work that supports formulation design, process understanding, and robust data generation. The assignment suits someone who enjoys structured lab work, independent execution, and translating experimental results into actionable insights.

Your responsibilities

• Analyse and evaluate material properties and their impact on formulation and process performance using experimental studies and basic data analysis

• Plan, set up, and run feeder trials across different settings and configurations in continuous manufacturing environments

• Acquire, curate, and process experimental data; perform basic analyses (e.g. trends, variability) and maintain traceable documentation (ELN/Excel)

• Work safely and compliantly: conduct risk assessments, handle powders and chemicals safely, use PPE, and follow SOPs

• Collaborate in a multi-experiment environment, communicating clearly and managing time to meet project timelines

Your background

You bring a strong scientific foundation combined with hands-on laboratory experience and the ability to work independently in a regulated setting. You are structured, curious, and comfortable navigating experimental work that connects materials, processes, and performance.

Typical experience includes:

• Practical execution of formulation or process experiments

• Basic understanding of DOE, materials characterization, and data processing/visualization

• Experience working safely in laboratory environments with good documentation practices

• Strong collaboration and communication skills in cross-functional teams
