At WeQuel, we are looking for a Senior Scientist to join our consulting team for an exciting assignment at AstraZeneca, where you will play a critical role in developing future preclinical models to support the discovery of life-changing medicines.
About the Role
This is a consulting role through WeQuel, where you will work as part of AstraZeneca’s Microphysiological Systems (MPS) team at their dynamic R&D site in Gothenburg. The MPS team leverages advanced cell models, microfluidic chip technologies, and flow cytometry to enhance the development of therapies for Cardiovascular, Renal, and Metabolic (CVRM) diseases. Your role will be to design, optimize, and execute flow cytometry-based assays while collaborating with researchers to establish and refine advanced cell models.
Your Responsibilities
- Develop and execute flow cytometry (FACS) assays for cell characterization and functional analysis, including panel design.
- Design, conduct, and report studies using advanced cell models and Microphysiological Systems (MPS).
- Perform various downstream analyses, such as ELISA, qPCR, staining, imaging, and high-content analysis.
- Support model development to generate robust data for mechanism of action studies, target identification, and drug evaluation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality scientific data.
Who You Are
Essential Requirements:
- Master’s degree + 4 years of relevant experience in Pharmacy, Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Medical Biosciences, Bioengineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in flow cytometry, including assay development, troubleshooting, and data interpretation.
- Extensive hands-on experience with cell culture.
- Expertise in in-vitro analytical methods such as qPCR, staining, high-content imaging, and plate-based assays (e.g., ELISAs).
- Strong skills in data visualization and statistical analysis.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work collaboratively across functions with a problem-solving mindset.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with 3D cell cultures (e.g., spheroids, organoids, or multicellular co-cultures).
- Knowledge of cell models for liver, kidney, cardiac, pancreas, or adipose tissue.
- Experience with culturing immune cells and handling microfluidic chips.
- Familiarity with workflow automation, such as robotic liquid handling.
- Previous experience within the pharmaceutical industry.
