ABOUT THE ASSIGNMENT

OT/Automation Engineer

The OT/Automation Engineer designs, implements, and secures operational technology systems that keep industrial processes reliable, efficient, and safe. This role has a direct impact on production uptime, process optimization, and the protection of critical networked control systems.

Responsibilities

- Design, program, commission, and maintain PLC-based control systems to support continuous industrial operations.
- Develop and configure distributed automation systems, including setup and management of 800xA environments and HMI/SCADA integration.
- Implement and validate network architectures for OT environments, ensuring segmentation, routing, and secure connectivity between control systems and enterprise networks.
- Install, test, and maintain automation software and firmware; perform controlled software installation and version management across sites.
- Apply OT security best practices: configure firewalls, access controls, and monitoring to detect and mitigate threats in real time.
- Perform risk assessments, vulnerability scans, and remediation planning for control systems and associated network components.
- Troubleshoot complex automation faults on-site and remotely, providing root-cause analysis and durable corrective actions.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and change records for automation and network changes.
- Collaborate with operations, IT, safety, and engineering teams to deliver projects on time while minimizing operational disruption.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

- 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience programming and commissioning PLCs (e.g., ABB, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or equivalent) in production environments.
- Practical knowledge of industrial automation platforms such as ABB 800xA or similar control environments.
- Strong understanding of industrial networking, including switches, VLANs, routing, and secure remote access.
- Experience with firewall configuration and OT-focused network security controls.
- Proven ability to perform software installation, patching, and controlled rollouts for automation systems.
- Familiarity with OT security concepts, segmentation, threat detection, and incident response in control environments.
- Good documentation skills and experience producing commissioning records, procedures, and technical reports.
- Fluent Swedish and professional English.

NICE TO HAVE

- Certifications in industrial automation, network engineering, or cybersecurity.
- Experience with virtualization.
- Experience with SCADA Historian integration or time-series data platforms.
- Background in process control engineering, instrumentation, or a related industrial discipline.
- Experience participating in cross-functional OT security programs or mature change-management processes.
