Right now, we are looking for a Research Scientist in Membrane Protein Sciences for a one-year temporary consultant assignment at AstraZeneca’s vibrant R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden.

About the role

This is a laboratory-based position where you will apply your expertise in protein purification and recombinant protein expression to support early drug discovery projects. You will deliver impactful recombinant membrane protein reagents to enable hit-finding, lead-generation, and clinical candidate validation.

What you will do

• Generate tailored membrane protein reagents to support discovery projects at different stages.
• Perform expression screening in eukaryotic hosts, large-scale expression, and purification of recombinant membrane proteins.
• Supply high-quality bioreagents for assay development, affinity screening, and structure-based drug discovery.
• Plan, execute, and report experimental strategies both independently and in collaboration with colleagues.
• Contribute to advancing AstraZeneca’s capabilities in recombinant membrane protein production.

Essential requirements

• Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related field + at least 2 years relevant work experience.
• Expertise in expression, purification, and characterization of membrane proteins.
• Passion for laboratory-based experimental research.
• Ability to work independently and in global, cross-functional teams.
• Strong laboratory skills, scientific judgment, enthusiasm, and curiosity.

Desirable requirements

• Experience with GPCR expression, purification, and pharmacology.
• Understanding of drug discovery and ability to contribute to project progression.
• Expertise in eukaryotic cell culture for recombinant protein expression.
