WeQuel is looking for a skilled Separation Scientist to join our consultant team for an exciting assignment at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg. If you have hands-on experience in purification of small molecules and a passion for automated analytical chemistry and separation sciences, this role is for you!

About the Role

As a Separation Scientist, you will play a key role in high-throughput purification and characterization of chemical libraries. You will contribute to automation-driven analytical and preparative chromatography solutions to support AstraZeneca’s drug discovery efforts. Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing hands-on separation science support using cutting-edge chromatographic instrumentation.
• Delivering automated analysis and purification of novel compounds using Liquid Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (LC–MS) and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
• Ensuring reliability, performance, and data quality of analytical instrumentation and automation platforms.
• Collaborating with scientists across analytical and synthesis teams to drive sample progression.
• Contributing to process and infrastructure improvements within the team.

Who You Are

We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented scientist who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Key Qualifications:

• BSc/MSc in Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry.
• Strong expertise in analytical and/or preparative chromatographic techniques (HPLC, HPLC-MS), including method development and troubleshooting.
• Hands-on lab-based experience using analytical chemistry and/or automation techniques.
• Detailed understanding of the application of analytical techniques to solve complex scientific questions.
• Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong communication and time management skills with a focus on delivery and collaboration.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience with liquid handlers.
• Familiarity with LC software (MassHunter, Chemstation, Masslynx, Virscidian, etc.).
• Knowledge of pharmaceutical drug discovery processes.
• Experience with other analytical techniques such as NMR, IR & MS.
• Basic understanding of synthetic chemistry.
